‘Post-Hole Digger,’ a Memoir by James Pope, Reveals Important Lessons for Parents and Growing Children

June 19, 2020 – All parents have struggled with the big question, ‘How to make children grow up into responsible adults?’ It’s an almost impossible question to answer, but a great response has just come in the form of James Pope’s debut memoir, “Post-Hole Digger.” Born on a farm, James had to shoulder family responsibilities from the moment he could walk. This book will delight all parents as well as young adults and children with its important life lessons.

James Pope begins his memoir on the day he was born in a rural Iowa family with three sisters.  Among his first memories is lying in a wagon with corn ears hitting him gently. Growing up, James was quick to learn from his mistakes, like when he fell out a window with his little sister Mary or tore the family yard riding a Caterpillar tractor. After losing his father at fifteen, James had to take on the sole responsibility of supporting his family.

“Post-Hole Digger” carries deep lessons for children and adults alike. The book carries valuable tips on parenting, teaching children how to manage finances, becoming independent, and how to grow into responsible, caring adults. The memoir will also inspire readers to hold family discussions over many important topics such as the dangers of extended parenting, and how to make important decisions.

Stop extended parenting. The child must learn the fun of being part of a family. We must understand the difference between needs and wants, and what values mean. Speak with love using adult language. Teach children, from a very young age, that everything dies, so they will be able to make logical decisions in an emotional situation,” says James Pope.

“Pope’s prose is conversational and straightforward, recounting events of his life in the third person without much comment… A simple, bighearted, but often messy book about life on a farm.” – Kirkus Review.

Though busy and occupied most of his life, James did not miss out on the adult world of socializing, thanks to his sisters Bonnie and Frances. With his debut memoir, James Pope has made an important contribution to guide parents and children into building a better future. The book also carries eye-opening nuggets of knowledge, such as how emotions always win when pitted against logic, a fact exploited by salesmen.
