All Humans have an Innate Need to Connect - Regardless of Race or Differences
Kharis Publishing today announces the release of “Breaking the Barriers to Belonging” (ISBN: 978-1637461723) by Dr. Pascal and Crystal Losambe, a must-read for anyone who strives to balance emotion with evidence.

Columbus, Ohio – “Being a person of color in the U.S. is an identity that can make one vulnerable,” says Dr. Pascal Losambe. He believes we all have a biological need to belong – to be part of a larger community – and suggests certain groups, especially minority groups, are kept from full achievement. He says we all need to live in a world marked by “love, compassion, and empathy.”

Losambe and his wife, Crystal, are authors of Breaking the Barriers to Belonging (Kharis), a look into the myriad reasons we see conflict and turmoil, especially in race relations. “Race touches on us all, no matter our color or ethnic background . . . Many Whites will have to resist feeling of discomfort and the urge to hide behind their privileged identities,” he writes.

While looking into biases, both implicit and explicit, Losambe says “it is easy for our negative implicit biases to go unchecked.” His book offers recommendations for “racial reconciliation” and suggests understanding the components of human identity:

How we see ourselves

How others see us

How we act based on how we perceive people see us

“Personal identity is what makes us unique and distinct. He refers to “socially constructed categories” where society puts people into groups. He believes humans have trained their brains to make sense of the world through the lens of our social identities. At least one solution is to start by redistributing wealth and power. “We can really make a difference in our organization by wealth redistribution,” he observes. This includes, but is not limited to diversity in partnerships, supplier diversity, diversity offices, and intentional recruiting.

“Our shared humanity begins with the understanding that every behavior is motivated by a desire to fulfill specific human needs,” says Dr. Losambe. “We must recognize the uniqueness of others and not proceed assumptions and preconceived notions.”
