Packs Light Launches Study Abroad Re-do Grant to Help Awardees Take Their Dream Trip
Packs Light is launching The Study Abroad Re-do Grant to provide a second chance to study abroad for those who never had the chance to take a college study abroad trip. This grant launches on February 27, 2023 and the submission deadline is April 15. Winners will be announced June 15.
There are so many reasons why people don’t study abroad: they may not have had money to study abroad, or even have attended college. They might not have known paid travel opportunities like scholarships where an option or maybe were just overwhelmed by the entire process. If this sounds like you, Gabby is here to give you a second chance.
Interested parties must be 18 years or older and a United States citizen or permanent resident, including Washington D.C. and permanent United States territories, in order to apply. The application is 10 questions long, including multiple choice, free response and video response questions.
There will be three total grant winners, and each winner will receive $5,000 that will go toward their travel expenses. This is an opportunity to have an intentional, learning-focused travel experience that isn’t limited to what credits transfer to a home university or a college major.
“Studying abroad changed my life in so many ways, but I was only able to do so because of the scholarships I was awarded,” said Gabby Beckford, founder of Packs Light. “I think about how different my life would have been if I had not been awarded those scholarships, and how many other people went down that alternative path because of finances, knowledge, overwhelm, or so many other reasons. I want to help the rewrite their stories and give them another chance to have their lives changed by an intentional travel experience—on me!”
Packs Light knows that travel can seem unattainable due to a lack of confidence in visiting new places, being worried about the logistics of planning and executing a trip and a lack of funding. Through this travel grant, Packs Light aims to give awardees another chance in life to go into the world and chase the language they’ve always wanted to learn, the class they’ve always wanted to take, or the backpacking trip they’ve always wanted to do, without age being a factor.
