Flavio Maluf Leads Eucatex to World Finance Sustainability Award 2025 for Industrial and Commercial Wood Excellence

Brazilian manufacturing leader recognized for pioneering environmental stewardship and sustainable forestry practices

São Paulo, Brazil – Eucatex, one of Brazil’s largest producers of building materials, has been honored with the prestigious World Finance Sustainability Award 2025 in the Industrial and Commercial Wood category. The recognition celebrates the company’s exceptional commitment to sustainable forestry practices and environmental responsibility under the leadership of President Flavio Maluf.

World Finance recognized Eucatex among companies that “have embedded sustainability at the heart of their operations and are driving real-world impact across environmental, social, and economic dimensions.” The award acknowledges organizations that set new standards in climate responsibility, social equity, and sustainable innovation.

“This recognition validates our decades-long commitment to sustainable manufacturing and responsible forest management,” said Flavio Maluf, President of Eucatex since 1997. “We have consistently demonstrated that environmental stewardship and business success can go hand in hand.”

Pioneering Sustainable Practices

Under Flavio Maluf’s leadership, Eucatex has implemented comprehensive sustainability initiatives that span the entire production cycle. The company maintains 50 million planted eucalyptus trees across 35,000 hectares of land, consuming 1.8 million cubic meters of wood annually while planting approximately 6,000 hectares per year. This careful balance ensures sustainable supply chains while supporting Brazil’s environmental goals.

Eucatex obtained Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification in 1996, positioning itself as an early adopter of environmental standards in Brazil. The company also holds ISO 14001 certification, validating its commitment to international environmental management practices.

“We were born from a forest base and have been planting eucalyptus since the 1950s,” explained Maluf. “Our forests have one of the highest annual growth rates in Brazil, and we can produce 13 million seedlings annually to supply our eucalyptus farms.”

Innovation in Environmental Technology

Eucatex operates one of Latin America’s largest industrial-scale wood recycling centers, collecting waste from more than 300 partner companies. This pioneering recycling program transforms materials that would otherwise reach landfills into biomass for production processes, reducing environmental impact while providing economical energy sources.

The company recently invested R$300 million in the Castilho Solar Plant, the largest in São Paulo state, with a generation capacity of 269 MWp. This renewable energy investment now provides 50% of electricity consumption across Eucatex’s manufacturing facilities.

Global Impact and Recognition

Eucatex currently exports to more than 40 countries across Latin America, Europe, and North America, employing over 3,000 people across five manufacturing facilities in Brazil and maintaining a wholly-owned subsidiary in Atlanta, Georgia. The company adapts approximately 20% of its products to meet specific regional market requirements, demonstrating its commitment to serving diverse international markets.

The World Finance Sustainability Award 2025 adds to Eucatex’s growing list of recognitions. According to World Finance, the award honors “leaders in this industry not just for meeting regulatory expectations, but for setting new standards in climate responsibility, social equity, and sustainable innovation.”
